Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was an unmarried 20 year old clerk from York, AL when he enlisted as Private on 24 April 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry. Present at engagements from First to Second Manassas, VA.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
In action again at Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 before being detailed 13 January 1863 to the Commissary Department, Army of Tennessee.
