Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was an unmarried 21 year old student from Florence, AL when he enlisted as Private on 20 September 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry at Camp Law, VA. He was present at most engagements from Eltham's Landing to Malvern Hill, VA.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
