Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was a married 24 year old farmer from Florence, AL when he enlisted as Private on 28 April 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from First to Second Manassas, VA.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
In action from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 to Knoxville, TN, where he was killed in action in November 1863.
