Before Sharpsburg

A farmer from Mansfield, LA, he enlisted at age 22 in Company F, 9th Louisiana Infantry on 7 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA. He was appointed 5th Sergeant on 16 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action, probably along the Hagerstown Pike, on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was absent, wounded through December 1862. He was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 July 1863. He was absent, sick at hospital, beginning in late December 1863. He was on furlough at least through February 1864, and did not return to his Company.
