An unmarried 51 year old laborer from Marion, he enlisted in Company A, 8th Alabama Infantry on 8 May 1861. He was present at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Fraziers Farm, and 2nd Manassas in 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the General Hospital, Selma, AL on 21 October 1862 (listed as John Cassity). He was discharged for wounds on 15 November 1862.
