Before the Antietam Campaign:
He had probably served in the 3rd South Carolina Infantry Regiment, and enlisted in Company F, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 30 January 1862 at Columbia, SC.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was reported missing in action at Fox's Gap on 14 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He mustered out of service (date not given) as a Corporal in the 8th South Carolina Infantry, which had consolidated with the 3rd Regiment, 3rd Battalion and other SC troops in April 1865.
