Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company G, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 6 February 1862 at Columbia, SC at age 28. He was appointed Corporal on 1 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Held at Fort Delaware, he was sent to Aikens Landing, VA and exchanged on 2 October 1862. He returned to duty on 12 November and was promoted to Sergeant on 1 December. He was mortally wounded in action by gunshot in the back at Knoxville, TN on 18 November 1863, and was captured there. He died of wounds 25 March 1864.
