He enlisted in Company B, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 5 December 1861 at Columbia, SC at about age 31. He was in hospital at Adams Run, SC for "back disease" in January 1862, and on detached service in February.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Fox's Gap on 14 September 1862.
