Before Sharpsburg

From the Newberry District, he enlisted in Company D, 3rd South Carolina Infantry Battalion on 1 December 1861 at Columbia, SC. He was detached to man a battery at Pineberry Point, Edisto Island, SC in February 1862.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Fox's Gap on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Aiken's Landing, VA on 6 October. He was in Winder Division Hospital #4, Richmond, VA, and died there on 13 November 1862 of typhoid fever.
