Before Antietam

From North Canaan, CT, he enlisted on 23 April 1861 and mustered as Private, Company E, 2nd Connecticut Infantry. He mustered out on 7 August 1861 in New Haven then re-enlisted, mustering as Sergeant, Company I, 11th Connecticut Infantry on 1 December 1861. He was reduced to Private on 6 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 28 April 1863.
