A 22 year old nailor (nail maker) in Petersburg, he enlisted in Perry County on 27 May 1861 and mustered into service as Private, Company B, 13th Pennsylvania Reserves on 4 June in Harrisburg.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He mustered out with his Company on 11 June 1864.
