He enlisted at age 18 in Company D, 13th New Jersey Infantry on 25 July 1862 and mustered as Private.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was detailed to the Provost Guard in Sharpsburg 11 November to 10 December 1862. He was promoted Corporal 1 January 1865 and mustered out of service with his Company on 8 June 1865.

After the War

He was Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 5th Regiment, New Jersey National Guard by 1880. He was Quartermaster of the Lincoln Post No. 11 of the GAR, Newark, NJ as late as 1914.
