Before Antietam

Age 24, from Readfield, he enlisted in Company F, 10th Maine Infantry on 4 October 1861 and mustered as Sergeant. He was wounded in the head in action at Cedar Mountain on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

Early on the 17th at Antietam, he assisted Adjutant Gould in getting the wounded General Mansfield to the rear.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Sergeant in 1863, date not given, and mustered out with his Company on 7 May 1863.
