Age 23, he enlisted in Albany 23 April and mustered as Private, Company C, 18th New York Infantry on 17 May 1861. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland but died, probably of disease, at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 3 November 1862.

After the War

He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown.
