Age 23 years, he enlisted 7 July 1861 at Elmira and mustered in as Private, Company D, 33rd New York Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He was transferred to Company G on 18 October 1862, but died of typhoid fever at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 6 November 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown.
