A 20 year old collier from Huntington County, he enlisted 30 August 1861 at Harrisburg, and mustered as Private, Company D, 49th Pennsylvania Infantry on 31 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was hospitalized for illness about 15 October 1862, and died at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 19 October 1862.

The rest of the War

He was probably initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown and later reinterred.
