He enlisted as a Musician in Company K, First New Jersey Infantry on 21 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He died of consumption (pneumonia) at the Court House hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 7 November 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
