Age 20, he enlisted 10 July at Elmira, and mustered as Private in Company A, 27th New York Infantry on 15 July 1861.

He was with his Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He died of disease at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 11 November 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
