A 23 year old blacksmith from Butler County, he enlisted 7 August 1862 and mustered as Private, Company D, 137th Pennsylvania Infantry on 23 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He died of disease at a hospital in Hagerstown, MD on 12 November 1862. He was initially buried in a plot near the Alms House in Hagerstown, but was reinterred at the new Antietam National Cemetery in 1866-67.
