Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted at Camp Clark in Guadalupe County as 3rd Sergeant of Company A, 4th Texas Infantry on 11 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was elected Junior 2nd Lieutenant on 8 October 1862 and was promoted to First Lieutenant and appointed Adjutant of the regiment on 25 November.

He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863. He was transferred to the Academy US Army General Hospital in Chambersburg, PA on 17 July, to Harrisburg in August, and to the USA GH in West's Buildings in Baltimore on 4 September. He was sent to Fort McHenry on 12 September and onward to the prison at Johnson's Island, OH on the 28th. He was sent back to Baltimore on 9 February 1864 and finally exchanged at Point Lookout, MD on 3 March to return to duty.

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his abdomen at Bermuda Hundred, VA on 20 June 1864 and died in the Infirmary of St. Francis de Sales in Richmond, VA on 22 June 1864.
