Before Sharpsburg

From Craig County, he enlisted as Private in Crenshaw's Battery in Richmond on 14 March 1862. He was wounded by a piece of shell at Gaines' Mill on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded, struck on the foot by a piece of shell, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded for the third time, at Gettysburg, PA, but returned to his battery on about 15 December 1863. He was listed as absent without leave in March 1864, but later listed as absent, wounded. He was detailed as an ambulance driver in November 1864. He took the oath of allegiance on 15 April 1865 in Lynchburg, VA.
