Before Sharpsburg

Age 19, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Company I, 32nd Virginia Infantry on 27 May 1861 in Williamsburg. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 25 September at Shepherdstown, VA, but died of wounds on 3 October in Jefferson, VA.
