Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 22 year old "manager" living with his parents and 9 younger siblings on the family farm in Maysville, Buckingham County, VA. He enlisted on 15 March 1862 and drilled at the fairground in Norfolk, VA, then mustered as a Private in Company E, 41st Virginia Infantry on 11 April 1862. He was ill in Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, VA in June 1862, but returned to duty.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
