A 31 year old farmer in Highland County, he mustered as Private, Company F, 25th Virginia Infantry on 30 March 1862 at Camp Alleghany, VA (now WV). He deserted and lost his musket at Camp Shenandoah, VA on 19 April 1862, but returned to duty (date not given).

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 25 September 1862.
