Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted in Company B, 4th Texas Infantry on 18 March 1862, and was appointed First Sergeant 24 July.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was seriously wounded and captured on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort McHenry, MD and exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862. He transferred to Company C, 3rd Arkansas Infantry in 1863 and was appointed commissary sergeant on 1 August 1863. He was paroled at Appomattox, VA on 12 April 1865.
