He enlisted in Robertson County as a Private in Company C, 4th Texas Infantry on 15 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with the regiment as an ambulance driver at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in the leg at the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and lost his leg to amputation. He was in a hospital in Lynchburg, VA until surrendered and paroled there in April 1865.
