A carpenter's son, in 1860 he was a 16 year old farm hand living with his parents and 7 siblings at Homer in Banks County, GA. He enlisted in Banks County as a Private in Company A, 24th Georgia Infantry on 24 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Robert filed for his final pay in May 1863.
