Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 25 year old on his parent's farm at Cane Creek in Walker County, GA. He enrolled and was commissioned Junior 2nd Lieutenant, Company C, 60th Georgia Infantry on 19 September 1861 at Dalton, GA.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 19 October 1862 in Winchester, VA. His father William filed for his final pay of $70.66 in December 1862 noting David left behind "neither wife nor child."
