Before Sharpsburg

A 20 year old farmer in Assumption Parish, he enlisted as Private, Company K, 8th Louisiana Infantry on 19 June 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action and captured at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated as US Army General Hospital #5 in Frederick, MD and then on to Ft. McHenry, Baltimore, MD on about 16 October 1862. He was exchanged at Aiken's Landing, VA on 10 November 1862 and was in a hospital in Richmond, VA to February 1863. He was furloughed home to Louisiana by May 1863 and later listed as absent without leave. He may have joined the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry by October 1863.
