A 25 year old farmer in Ringgold, AL, he enlisted as Private, Company C, 9th Louisiana Infantry on 8 March 1862 at Mt. Lebanon, LA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sent to a hospital, place not given, and returned to duty by January 1863. He went home on a sick furlough between March and October 1863 and by November was listed as absent without eave, west of the Mississippi River.
