A 35 year old sailor in New Orleans, he enlisted as Private, Company D, 10th Louisiana Infantry on 22 July 1861 at Camp Moore, LA.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Ft. McHenry, MD on 12 November 1862 and exchanged at City Point, VA on 21 November. He was captured again, at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864. He was held at Point Lookout, MD until 28 May 1864, when he joined the US Army.
