Before Sharpsburg

Age 26 he enlisted at Camp Clark in Guadalupe County as a Private in Company D, 4th Texas Infantry on 4 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was elected Brevet 2nd (3rd) Lieutenant on 10 January 1863 and 2nd Lieutenant in May but was wounded by a gunshot to his left leg at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863. He was afterward absent in hospitals and on furloughs (to Spartanburg, SC and Griffin, GA) to 19 October 1864 when he was retired to the Invalid Corps.

Service information from Davis1 and his Compiled Service Records,2 via fold3. Polley3 says he was killed at Chickamauga, GA in 1863, as A.H. Woods.
