A 22 year old carpenter in Northbridge, he enlisted 1 October and mustered as Sergeant, Company C, 28th Massachusetts Infantry on 13 December 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Locust Spring Hospital on the Geeting Farm near Keedysville, MD but died there of wounds on 22 September 1862.
