Before Sharpsburg

From McLellan County, he enlisted in Waco as the 2nd Sergeant of Company E, 4th Texas Infantry on 13 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September but not at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Suffolk, VA in May 1863 and paroled for exchange at Fortress Monroe, VA on 13 May. He was wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863, left behind in a field hospital, and captured there on 4 July. He was at Fort Delaware by 7 July 1863 and was released on 6 June 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance.
