Before Sharpsburg

At age 19 he enlisted as a Private in Company L, First Texas Infantry at Galveston on 1 (or 4) August 1861 and transferred to Company E of the 4th Texas Infantry on 19 November 1861. He was promoted to Corporal on 15 May 1862 and was slightly wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was sick in a Richmond, VA hospital from 13 December 1862 to 1 March 1863 and was listed as absent without leave since 24 June 1863 with no later military record.
