Before Antietam

A 19 year old clerk in Salem, MA, he enlisted 15 April 1861 and mustered as Corporal, Company I, 8th Massachusetts (Militia) Infantry on 30 April. He mustered out on 1 August in Boston, then was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, Company F, 35th Massachusetts Infantry on 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds in Middletown, MD on 22 September 1862.
