An 18 year old boot maker in Roxbury, he enlisted 13 October and mustered as Private, Company K, 28th Massachusetts Infantry on 13 December 1861. He was wounded in action at James Island, SC on 16 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of disease at Alexandria, VA on 14 November 1862.
