He probably arrived in Colorado County, Texas from Magdeburg, Saxony (now Germany) with his parents in 1853. They moved to a farm at Millheim, Austin County in 1858. He enlisted as Private in Company C, First Texas Infantry, and later transferred to Company B, dates not given. He was wounded in the foot at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
