He enlisted in Company B, 6th Georgia Infantry on 20 May 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by gunshot to the legs and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was treated at a US Army hospital in Frederick, MD from 22 October to 4 March 1863. He was exchanged and returned to duty, date not given. He was captured again, at Missionary Ridge, TN on 25 November 1863 and held at Rock Island, IL until transferred for exchange on 15 February 1865.
