He enlisted in Company B, 6th Georgia Infantry on 17 July 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was severely wounded in the hips at Petersburg, VA in 1864 and lost the middle finger of his left hand and was shot in the leg, both at Ft. Harrison, VA on 30 September 1864. He surrendered at Greensboro, NC on 26 April 1865.
