In 1860 he was an 41 year overseer on his widowed mother Mary's farm near Lexington, Oglethorpe County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company K, 6th Georgia Infantry on 28 May 1861 in Atlanta.

On the Campaign

He was listed as missing in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862 with no later military record; he was probably killed there.
