Age 25, from Wilson County, he enlisted as Private, Company F, 4th North Carolina Infantry on 15 March 1862 in Manassas, VA.

On the Campaign

He was with his Company in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Corporal on 1 January and Sergeant on 14 March 1863, but he was mortally wounded at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863 and died 4 days later.
