Before Antietam

He enlisted as Private, Company H, 106th Pennsylvania Infantry on 17 September 1861 and was promoted to Corporal on 1 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Sergeant on 9 April 1863 but was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July. He reenlisted 27 March 1864 and was wounded yet again, at Spotsylvania, VA on 12 May 1864. He was appointed Commissary Sergeant of the 106th Battalion on 1 November 1864 and commissioned (but not mustered) 2nd Lieutenant, Company H on 8 June 1865. He mustered out with the Battalion on 30 June 1865.
