Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted as Private, Company C, 23rd Georgia Infantry on 31 August 1861. He was sick in the CS General Hospital in Danville, VA by May 1862 but returned to duty.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. Private Brewer of his Company later wrote:

John Fowler was shot in the head a few paces from me and Tom Williams was killed later in the day at Sharpsburg ...

References & notes

Service information from Henderson.1 who says he returned from the hospital in October 1862 and was "killed in service", place not specified. The quote above from Yeary.2
