He came with his family to Grimes County, TX by 1850. He enlisted there as Private in Company G, 4th Texas Infantry on 19 July 1861. He was sick in Richmond in the Spring and Summer of 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his Company at Fox's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was with his Company through the war and was paroled at Montgomery, Alabama on 21 May 1865.
