A 19 year old farmer, he enlisted on 21 October 1861 in Erie, PA and mustered into service as Private, Company H, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was present in action with his Company at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was mortally wounded while serving on the skirmish line at Atlanta, GA and died there on 23 July 1864.
