A 20 year old farmer in Chesterville he enlisted as Private, Company H, 2nd Mississippi Infantry on 15 March 1862.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

In about December 1863 he was on detached service in Mississippi arresting deserters. He was discharged on the Rapidan, VA on 16 March 1864 for disability.
