A 23 year old farmer, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company D, 37th Virginia Infantry on 21 May 1861 in Estillville, VA. He was wounded at Cedar Mountain, VA on 9 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond, VA on 28 September, furloughed on 4 October, ad returned to duty about 4 November 1862. He was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863.
