From Sullivan County, TN, he enlisted and mustered as Private, Company B, 37th Virginia Infantry on 22 April 1861 in Abingdon, VA.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the shoulder in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company about 15 December 1862. He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and held at Fort Delaware. He was released 7 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.
