He enlisted and mustered as Private, Company A, 37th Virginia Infantry in Goodson (now Bristol), VA on 10 March 1862. He was wounded at Winchester, VA on 25 May 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864 and held at Fort Delaware by 20 May. He was released 10 June 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance.

After the War

He lived in Sullivan County, TN.
